The laboratory
The heart of Rifra: technical excellence and continuous innovation
Rifra’s laboratory consists of fourteen people led by a technical management team and a department manager, with specific mandates and areas of responsibility for the following macro-areas: research and development, design, technology, and quality control. It represents the heart of Rifra, an environment where highly qualified chemists and technicians work, committed to pursuing objectives of continuous improvement and excellence. Equipped with technologically advanced instruments capable of simulating the main industrial applications, it ensures safety, quality, and sustainability throughout the entire production chain. The various operational areas constantly collaborate with each other and with other company functions, integrating skills and responsibilities.

Operational areas
Four integrated areas collaborating to ensure quality, innovation, and compliance throughout the supply chain
Research and development
Research & development keeps Rifra up to date on developments in applied research and regulatory contexts, evaluating and promoting solutions oriented towards innovation and sustainability. In close synergy with design, the purchasing office, and regulatory affairs, it carefully selects raw materials and updates product specifications, seeking ever higher quality standards.
Design
The design department develops tailor-made products to meet specific customer needs, operating in collaboration with regulatory affairs to ensure full compliance with standards.
Technology
The technology area serves as a direct link between design and production, ensuring that what is designed and validated in prototype form is reproduced with consistent quality during the transition to industrial scale-up.
Quality control
Quality control continuously verifies compliance with the quality standards of finished products defined by the company and/or upon specific customer request. It performs chemical-physical analyses on raw materials and carries out application testing techniques on finished products, ensuring performance stability over time.
Advanced innovation
Rifra develops innovation projects to restore value to recycled plastics
Alongside established activities, Rifra develops advanced innovation projects, such as the “PCR plus” program, funded by the Region and launched in 2024, dedicated to the creation of additives capable of improving the performance of plastics obtained from post-consumer recycled polymers. The project leverages internal analytical skills and aims to restore higher-performing mechanical characteristics to recycled resins. The results will also be shared on the company website to initiate discussions with the market and gather new needs to be translated into tailor-made solutions.
